Experts agree that reading is the heart of school success. Good readers find it easier to do well in all subjects no matter what a child’s age; parents play an important role as they encourage reading. One of the greatest gifts parents can give their child is the love of reading. Here are some ways you can help improve your child’s reading skills and ensure their love of reading.

Read with your child every day. Your enthusiasm will motivate them.

Be a reading role model. Children who see parents reading want to read, too.

Make frequent trips to a library.

Ask your child questions as you read. “What do you think will happen next?”

Ask your child about a school textbook. “What did you learn from this chapter?”

Encourage your child to do some “real life” reading: recipes, instructions for a game, newspaper articles, even a map.

Praise reading progress. Make sure you express your pride as your child builds reading skills.

Of all the things parents can do to encourage school success, nothing compares to developing a child’s love of reading.

Parents and Guardians,

We are writing to request your partnership in maintaining a safe and private learning environment, as we are beginning to see "smart glasses" in some of our schools. To protect the privacy of all students and staff, these recording-capable devices must remain at home unless pre-approved by administration for a medical or educational accommodation. “Smart glasses” conflict with district policy regarding the unauthorized recording of others and pose risks to academic integrity and student safety; notably, the use of recording technology in high-privacy areas like restrooms and locker rooms is strictly forbidden and may result in criminal legal consequences.  If your child(ren) has “smart glasses,” please remind them that these devices are not allowed at school.  Thank you so much for your cooperation and assistance.
